I got up at 3 in the morning today to hop on a plane for New York City because:
I AM OFFICIALLY ON BOOK TOUR BABY!!
I know, I can't believe after 4 years, I'm back on the road to meet all of you and sign all your books and thank you in person for supporting The Korean Vegan.
I'll be on the road for the next two weeks (with a small break in-between) and, as I'm sure you've experienced, traveling for an extended period of time can take a toll on one's beauty regimen. As I was packing last night, I started to think about how to prioritize my skincare and hair care routine while on the road, and decided to share my 8 essential tips!
1. HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE!
Airplanes are DRYING AF and when you're moving from city to city, the changing climate can take a toll on your skin's moisture. Make sure to bring an empty water bottle that you can refill after passing security so you can keep hydrated! Your skin and hair will thank you!
2. Keep it Simple.
The KVBeauty routine is already pretty streamlined compared to the notoriously taxing K-beauty routines you see on the internet. But, when traveling, it's best to stick to ONLY the essentials. I bring my cleanser, KVBeauty Collagen Cream, sunscreen, and a bit of exfoliator. That's it! And, uh, now is NOT the time to try out a new product. Traveling is stressful, which means your body will already be prone to inflammation. Best to leave the brand new serum you want to try out for when you get back!
3. Reusable Travel Containers.
One of the BEST things I ever purchased was a collection of reusable travel safe bottles for my skin and hair care products. I actually got a chance to meet the creator and founder of Ries, a line of sustainably crafted reusable beauty product containers. These are perfect for your KVBeauty Collagen Shampoo--you can pack with confidence, knowing none of it will leak out into your luggage!
4. Protect Your Barrier.
As I mentioned, traveling can make your body (and thus your skin) more sensitive. As a result, it's important to pack products that are rich in ceramides, panthenol, or vegan collagen. Obviously, that means KVBeauty's Vegan Collagen Skin Cream!
5. Don't You DARE Skip Sunscreen!!
When you're up there on the plane, UV exposure increases. Not only that, when you're outside doing all the tourist-y things (or the business-y things), you are exposing your skin to lots more sunlight than you would at home. I don't wear makeup most days, so I leave my sunscreen right by the door to make sure I don't forget it!
6. Pack a Vegan Satin Pillowcase.
Why? Because hotel linens have usually been treated to harsh chemicals and starched within an inch of their lives. They can be rough on your hair cuticles and skin. A vegan satin-y pillowcase is not only easy enough to pack (it's light as a feather!), it prevents frizz and minimizes breakouts and bacteria transfer.
7. Scalp Care is Self-Care!
Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp! Start your morning by giving that scalp a much-needed massage for about 1-2 minutes. This small daily ritual can help to prevent buildup and fatigue from all that traveling and dehydration.
8. SLEEP!!!
There is no miracle product on the planet that will restore that healthy glow and shine to your skin and hair like sleep. We've talked all about setting up a clean sleep routine, and there's no reason that should change when you travel. Try to stick to as much of your bedtime routine as possible--set the hotel room temp to what you usually have at home, get off your phone, wash your face and put on KVBeauty skin cream, and get comfy!
That's it KVBeauties!! Wherever your travels take you, remember you can't leave your hair or skin behind, LOL! So best to keep them as comfortable as possible!
Bon voyage!
